A good nights sleep! Left Auckland at 9am for Whitianga on the Coromandel Peninsula. There is a one lane bridge that you must cross near Thames to cross onto the peninsula and it can cause massive delays. Fortunately we only had to wait 5 minutes as the wait can be 30 -60 minutes! It was a fantastic drive along the east coast. See photo. Coromandel reminded us of Bright (with water added) and there was the annual Keltic Fair on so we went in to have a little look.
After lunch we left for Whitianga (pronounce the 'wh' as 'f') and it is a beutiful spot which reminds us of Paynesville - lots of little cafe's, lots of boats, a ferry across to the 'island' (although it isn't) and so on. We are here in a nice unit (Mana-Nui Motel) right on the main street in walking distance to all the sights. I think this is where the America's Cup was staged as it seems to be an ideal spot.
